Why FastVidl Doesn't Have a Dedicated Image Downloader Yet
FastVidl's download engine was built and tested for Pinterest video, so that's what it does reliably today. Pulling a still image off a pin is a different job under the hood, and we'd rather ship it properly, tested on real devices, than bolt on something half-working. It's on our roadmap. Until it ships, the fastest and safest way to save a Pinterest image is Pinterest's own built-in export, which is what this page walks through.
The Fastest Way to Save a Pinterest Image Right Now
Pinterest already lets you export the original image file it has on hand, no third-party tool required. It takes about five seconds:
- Open the image pin. Tap it in the app, or open its page on pinterest.com.
- Open the options menu. On mobile, press and hold the image. On desktop, click the three-dot (…) icon on the pin.
- Choose "Download image" (sometimes labeled "Save image"). This exports the file Pinterest is actually serving, not a screenshot.
- Find it on your device. It saves as a JPG, PNG, or WebP straight to your Photos, gallery, or Downloads folder, depending on your device.
On iPhone and Android
In the Pinterest app, press and hold the image until a menu pops up, then tap Download image. Android saves it to your Downloads folder or gallery automatically. On iPhone, it goes to Photos, iOS may show a brief confirmation, and that's it, no extra apps.
On desktop
Right-clicking the image directly in your browser and choosing "Save image as" also works and gives you the same file, since Pinterest doesn't compress preview images differently from the download option. Either method gets you the same result on Windows or Mac.
How to Tell an Image Pin From a Video Pin
Before you go looking for a download button, check what kind of pin you're actually on. A video pin shows a small ▶ play icon and often a duration badge in a corner of the thumbnail, and it starts playing (usually muted) as you scroll past it. A still image pin does neither, it's just a static photo.
If you see that play icon, you're on a video pin, and the steps above won't help, use the Pinterest Video Downloader instead to save it as an MP4.
Be Careful With Tools That Ask for Your Pinterest Login
Saving one image at a time through Pinterest's own menu is the safest option, since it never asks for your account credentials. Be skeptical of any third-party "bulk board downloader" that wants you to log in with your Pinterest username and password, a legitimate downloader has no reason to need that, and handing over credentials to an unfamiliar site is a real account-security risk.
Is It Legal to Save a Pinterest Image?
Saving a copy of a public image for your own personal use, a mood board, a recipe reference, home décor inspiration, is generally low-risk. Reposting it elsewhere as your own or using it commercially is a different matter and depends on who owns the rights to it. When in doubt, credit the original pinner or ask before reusing their work.
