"Story Pin" and "Idea Pin" Are the Same Thing
Pinterest launched Story Pins in 2021, then renamed the feature Idea Pins in 2022. The multi-page, often-video format didn't change, just the name, so both terms still show up in search today depending on when someone last used Pinterest. If you're searching for a "Pinterest story downloader," this guide covers the same feature as a "Pinterest Idea Pin downloader."
What FastVidl Can Download From an Idea Pin
An Idea Pin can have multiple pages, and each page can be a video, a photo, or text on a background. FastVidl fetches the video pages as a standard MP4. Text-only and image-only pages don't have a video file to fetch, so they can't be downloaded the same way.
| Idea Pin page type | Downloadable as video? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Video page | Yes | Saved as MP4, same quality Pinterest serves. |
| Photo page | No | No video file exists for this page. Use Pinterest's own image save option instead. |
| Text-only page | No | There's nothing to save as a video. |
How to Download the Video From a Pinterest Idea Pin
- Open the Idea Pin. In the Pinterest app, tap the pin. On desktop, open it in your browser.
- Copy the link. On mobile, tap the share icon and choose Copy Link. On desktop, copy the URL from your browser's address bar.
- Paste it into FastVidl. Paste the link into the box at the top of this page or on the main Pinterest downloader.
- Download the video. FastVidl fetches the video page and gives you an MP4 to save, free, with no watermark added.
This uses the same engine as FastVidl's Pinterest Video Downloader — Idea Pin video pages and standalone video pins both come through the same tool.
Why an Idea Pin Sometimes Won't Download at All
- You copied the wrong link. Board and profile links won't work — the link needs to point at the specific pin.
- The pin is private or from a secret board. FastVidl can only read pins that are public and don't require you to be logged in to view.
- It's a text or photo page, not a video page. See the table above — this is expected behavior, not a bug.
- The pin has been deleted or made private since you found it. Reload the pin in your browser first to confirm it still loads normally.
Idea Pins vs. Standalone Video Pins
A regular video pin is a single video, uploaded as one piece of content. An Idea Pin is a sequence of pages a creator swipes through, and only some of those pages may be video. If you're not sure which one you're looking at, it doesn't matter for FastVidl — paste either kind of link and the tool detects the video content automatically.
